More About MACSC

What is the MACSC?

MACSC is a not-for-profit umbrella organization, which has served community-based efforts in the Northwest Philadelphia area for over 30 years.

By reducing the costs of maintaining separate not-for-profit organizations, MACSC enables community initiatives to have more funds available for mission-driven programs.  MACSC also serves as an incubator for new community efforts getting off the ground.

MACSC’s Board is composed of two representatives from each of the Service Groups and two representatives each from East and West Mt. Airy Neighbors Associations.

How does MACSC work?

MACSC serves the community in two ways:

1) As a not-for-profit umbrella for continuing community-based efforts, called SERVICE GROUPS, and

2) As a conduit for grant applications to new initiatives, called PASS-THROUGH GROUPS.  (Initiatives that come into MACSC as Pass-Through Groups can apply for Service Group status once they are established).

In order to be considered by the Board for membership in MACSC as either a Service Group or a Pass-Through Group, the initiative must:

  • Have a charitable purpose within the terms of MACSC's bylaws

  • Not duplicate the work of the current MACSC Service Groups
